9 Steps to a Successful Social Media Audit

Conducting a social media audit can be simple and fun!

It’s time to stop posting and running without gauging your social media performance! Have you conducted a social media audit lately? To have a healthy social media strategy, conduct social media audits every 6 to 12 months! Use these 9 steps to get you started.

1. Check your profile on all platforms

Are your cover photos, profile images, and bio unified and in line with the company?

Also, be sure to keep a spreadsheet with all your social media URLS. Deactivate accounts you no longer use.

2. Analyze your performance

See how your pages have grown within the year by tracking metrics that matter to your goals.

This is where your social media analytics tools can save you valuable time.

3. Know your best performing content

Learn which of your content pieces resonated with your audience the most and use that for future inspiration.

4. Revisit your audience personas

Audiences can change over time. Revisit your audience demographics and pyschographics and amend your buyer persona if necessary.

Tip: Based on your findings some platforms may no longer be a good fit. Be sure to keep an eye on emerging platforms your audience may join.

5. Conduct competitive analysis

Periodically, take a look at how your pages stack up against your competitors, and how you may need to adjust your content. Also look at your audience size, post frequency, content performance, and listening metrics.

6. Examine your paid social media

Determine the ROI of your investment efforts. Learn how much budget you are investing in each social media platform and how that translates into business.

7. Database influencer relationships

Keep a record of all the collaborations and relationships your brand has built with personalities and celebrities. Be sure to include information that provides additional context such as duration of partnership, and its outcomes.

8. Track community management

Track how your customer support metrics have changed over time. Have you now expanded to the point where you need chat bots or additional staff to address an influx of customer queries on social media?

9. Conduct periodic housekeeping

Consolidate ownership of social media platforms to an owner or team. Review the list of people who have access to your profiles and adjust permissions as necessary! This is especially relevant if you have outsourced your social media management to an agency in the past.
