Focus on the three Rs- results, reputation, referrals

Why Traditional Branding Is Useless for Service Providers

A few months ago I first stumbled upon this article written by Carol Roth of Entrepreneur, and it immediately hit home for me as a start up organization. In fact of all the articles I’ve read since embarking on the journey of business ownership it has resonated with me the most.

In the article Carol makes the point that focusing on building the visible elements of your business (logos, business cards, web layouts and more), are not essentially the elements which lead to great business partnerships. She refers to her own experience with her merchant banking firm to bring home the point that her clients knew of the quality of her work and returned to do business because of it.

This is truly a relatable experience as Brownie Communication Concepts was founded because I was first approached by a small organization that needed assistance in growing their communications capacity. Within months, and without a business name, card, logo or web presence I was referred to another company that needed similar work done for them for a week or two.

We are therefore testament to the belief that one should meet and surpass expectations, deliver results, build a reputation for doing so and ask for referrals for other business contacts. At times without expectation, referral work is given to you and that is the best Brownie feeling there is.

Keep at your small business, use the financial resources at your disposal wisely and be consistent with the work you produce.
